Speak Up to Protect Programs and Services for Children in the New Jersey Budget By September 11th!

Friend, programs supporting children and families in New Jersey are currently on the line and need your help. The Governor’s proposed budget for the next nine months includes substantial reductions to school-based youth programs, programs supporting post-adoption counseling, juvenile justice, early intervention services for young children with developmental delays and more (see pages 27-32 for a list of proposed departmental cuts).

TAKE ACTION: Advocates have until Friday, September 11th to tell the Assembly and Senate Budget committees why these programs are so important for our children and why they need continued funding. Help us by sharing how your child benefitted from one of these programs and speak out against the proposed budget cuts. Send an email to the legislative budget committees and make your voice heard.

BUDGET TESTIMONY TALKING POINTS: 

  1. Send your email to LBFO@njleg.org with the subject line, Testimony for FY21 Budget: Protect funding for [Name of Program]
  2. State your name, city/town, contact information and your interest in the program. 
  3. Explain why the program being cut is so important to children, families and your community. 
  4. Include any data or success stories showing how the program has helped your child or family, or other children and families you know or work with in your community. 
  5. Highlight ways that the program has assisted people during the COVID-19 pandemic. 
  6. Thank the committee for reading the testimony and ask to be contacted if they have additional questions.
