TAKE ACTION
The first three years of a baby’s life shape all the rest. During this time, a baby’s brain grows faster than at any later point in life, forming more than one million new neural connections every second. Positive interactions during this time of rapid brain development can impact a baby’s future social and emotional development and help them thrive as adults. Negative experiences can have a harmful impact on a baby’s growing brain and their emotional health.
In New Jersey, 102,000 babies are born every year. We can help support what babies' growing brains need by providing consistent and comprehensive coverage to parents and their children for critical infant mental health services.
Tell legislators to support what babies' growing brains need:
Improve New Jersey’s Medicaid plan to allow families to access critical mental health services.
Build a supply of well-trained infant mental health professionals.
Create a statewide system of infant mental health consultants to provide services in child care settings.
The future begins with babies. Let’s invest in babies and our future! These policy changes will yield significant benefits for families and children during a very critical period in their lives. Our future literally depends on it.
