New Jersey among 14 states selected for Pritzker grant

In case you missed it, there was lots of excitement in the world of early childhood advocacy. On April 15th, the national Pritzker Children’s Initiative (PCI), a project of the J.B. and M.K. Pritzker Family Foundation, announced that New Jersey was one of 14 states awarded planning grants as part of their Prenatal-to-Age-Three State Grant Competition, to strengthen and streamline a more efficient, effective and well-funded system of early care and education.

RWJ releases report on building a culture of health 

A new report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation highlights significant disparities in healthcare related to race, income and geography. Together, these gaps in care take a toll on the health of communities and contribute to nearly 6,400 unnecessary deaths per year in New Jersey. Many of their policy priorities were in line with ACNJ's early childhood policy recommendations, including:

• Improving maternal and infant health outcomes by enhancing care, supports, and prevention;
• Ensuring maximum uptake of the recently expanded paid family leave benefit, particularly among low-income workers; and
• Increasing access to high-quality early education for all of New Jersey’s 3- and 4-year-olds, with a continued focus on children living in poverty.
