ACNJ News and Updates - April 2021

Friend, Ready to #ReimagineChildCare?

New Jersey is expected to receive nearly $1 billion in federal aid for child care. This presents an opportunity to create a system that will provide high-quality child care for New Jersey infants and toddlers.

Lawmakers need to hear from parents. It's time for parents to get down to business and tell them what our babies need. Join other New Jersey parents of infants and toddlers on Wednesday, June 9th, 11AM - 12:30PM to work on solutions to share with state leaders on how to help address the child care crisis.

Congratulations Patricia Canning for Being Part of BUILD Initiative's Equity Leaders Action Network (ELAN) Fellowship!

The ELAN Fellowship, to which over 90 early childhood leaders across the nation applied, supports leaders to work within early childhood systems to advance policies, practices, programs and initiatives to intentionally redress racial and economic marginalization and create racial equity.

Patricia will work with colleagues until 2023 to identify, address, and take action to remediate inequities experienced by young children (prenatal to age 5), their families, and communities.

Congrats, Patricia!

Nina Peckman Reports What Parents Should Know Regarding School’s Obligations for Compensatory Education for Children with Disabilities

On March 3, 2021, the New Jersey Department of Education (DOE) issued new guidance regarding the responsibility of school districts to provide compensatory education to students with disabilities as a result of COVID-19, as well as explaining the parent’s rights to appeal any decisions. However, aspects of the guidance remain unclear. Staff Attorney Nina Peckman gives a brief overview of the guidance, and explains how parents can help ensure the best education for their children.
